One of the most famous and interesting lighthouses on Cape Cod is Chatham Lighthouse. It’s an active lighthouse at the Coast Guard Station that aids in the navigation of Chatham Waters. This is a smaller lighthouse set in beautiful surroundings with a stunning view of the beach and dunes.
Built in 1808, this lighthouse’s very first keeper was appointed by President Thomas Jefferson himself to help guide ships past the town of Chatham. Climb these 44 winding steps to be rewarded by stunning, panoramic views of the picturesque surrounding water and beaches. Also you’ll find a coastguard cutter in front on the property. Sometimes you can see seals playing just a few yards off the beach (Chatham Lighthouse Beach).
