Tucked away in Sandwich right beside Shawme Pond in Cape Cod’s oldest town is the Thomas Dexter Grist Mill! Not exactly a hidden spot, but it is truly a hidden gem on Cape Cod. The Dexter Grist Mill was first built in 1637. Tour the little mill and talk to the volunteer of the day to learn its histry… and also buy freshly ground Organic corn from May through September. A 2-pound cloth bag costs $5, but they sometimes have a two-for-one sale.
TIP: The town’s famous water fountain is just a few feet away from the mill property. Bring a cup, a bottle or bottles to fill with the refreshingly cool natural spring water. It’s free!
Open: Late May through the end of September.
Tickets: Adults $4, Children (12 and under) $3, and 8 and under free.
Tours: Offered throughout the day. Information: (508) 888-4361
