Dowse’s is a notable beach and fishing spot in Osterville. The only ocean beach in Osterville, Dowses is a wide stretch of sand on the western curve of Centerville Harbor. Located on a peninsula formed by the harbor, the East Bay inlet and the bay itself, Dowses Beach has a no-ball-playing rule. Beach sticker required. If it’s too windy or rough on the ocean side, you can move to the protected bay side. On the south end of the peninsula is a large, stone jetty with easily manageable rocks with a small pier that is great for fishing.
This semi-public beach offers free parking to residents who obtain a beach permit.
If you are not an Osterville resident, daytime access it tough, but no beach sticker is required after 6pm.
Lifeguards are on duty daily in the summer; showers, restrooms are offered in the shingled, Cape Cod-style beach house. A concession truck is parked daily and sells ice cream and snacks.
